Folk Art Santa Christmas Stocking

This stocking will just knock your socks off! I'm not kidding! The colors just pop! The stocking is entirely done by hand, embroidery and applique. Many, many hours went into this piece, but it was well worth it. It is fully lined on the inside. It is truly a piece to cherish for all the years to come.
I LOVE to collect Christmas items, and I love to exchange Christmas items. Every time the person you have given something to hangs or displays that gift, they will think of you with warm thoughts.

September 1, 2008

Yes, I know. I'm a terrible blogger. I just returned from Washington, D.C. I went up there for a few days to celebrate my twin sisters' 50th birthday. We had a blast! We laughed until we cried. I came home to Tropical Storm Fay. Luckily, I didn't have any damage, but I have never seen so much rain in all my life! Now we are worried about Hanna out there. She is just a little too close for comfort. Keep your fingers crossed that she decides to go the other way.

So, you know what that means! More new dolls!!!! And look at that piece on the end that looks like an old sampler. I love old samplers. Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

These are out of this world. So, I just had to share them with you.

Classic Cabbage Rolls

1 medium head cabbage, cored
1-1/2 cups chopped onion, divided
1 tablespoon butter
2 cans (14-1/2 ouncs each Italian stewed tomatoes)
4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
1 cup cooked rice
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 pound bulk Italian sausage (I buy a package of Italian sausages...that are each a little bigger than hotdogs..and use just one of them for the right amount. The rest can be saved for something else.) I actually used hot Italian chicken sausage, only 4 grams of fat.
1/4 cup V-8 juice, optional

In a dutch oven, cook cabbage in boiling water for 10 minutes or until outer leaves are tender; drain. Rinse in cold water; drain. Remove eight large outer leaves (refrigerate remaining cabbage for another use); set aside. INSTEAD..what I do is wrap the cabbage in saran wrap. Microwave it for 20 minutes on 80% power.

In a saucepann, saute 1 cup onion in butter until tender. Add tomatoes, garlic, brown sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. (I cut down the sugar to just 1 Tablespoon.) Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, in a bowl, combine rice, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, peppper and remaining onion and salt. Add beef and sausage; mix well. Carve off some of the thick vein from cabbage leaves for easier rolling.

Place about 1/2 cup meat mixture on each; fold in sides. (I divide the meat into 8 portions, so that they're all the same size.) Starting at an unfolded edge, roll up leaf to completely enclose filling. Place seam side down in a skillet. Top with the sauce. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 1 hour. Add V8 juice if desired. (I never do this. There's plenty of the sauce.) Reduce heat to low; cook 20 minutes longer or until rolls are heated throgh and meat is no longer pink. You can also bake in the oven at 350 for 1 1/2 hours.
Yield 8 stuffed cabbages..2 for each person usually.
Enjoy!

What Carol Means

What Carol Means

You are very open. You communicate well, and you connect with other people easily - I think I've gotten a lot better at this since I've gotten older. I still don't like to walk into a room full of strangers.
You are a naturally creative person. Ideas just flow from your mind.
A true chameleon, you are many things at different points in your life. You are very adaptable.
You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. I drive myself crazy sometimes!
You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. I would NOT say that I'm aggressive.
You have the classic "Type A" personality.
You are wild, crazy, and a huge rebel. You're always up to something.

You have a ton of energy, and most people can't handle you. You're very intense.
You definitely are a handful, and you're likely to get in trouble. But your kind of trouble is a lot of fun.
You are well rounded, with a complete perspective on life.
You are solid and dependable. You are loyal, and people can count on you. This is probably my best attribute. People ALWAYS admire me for being able to count on me. I guess it's just the way I was raised.
At times, you can be a bit too serious. You tend to put too much pressure on yourself.
You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow. I hate conflict!
You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.
Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is. I'll never tell!

One for the girls

I received this from a good friend of mine, and I just had to share it with you!
Carol

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my shape to keep.
Please no wrinkles, Please no bags
And please lift my butt before it sags.
Please no age spots, Please no gray
And as for my belly, Pleas e take it away.
Please keep me healthy, Please keep me young,
And thank you Dear Lord, For all that you've done.

Foot Note:
One saggy boob said to the other saggy boob:
'If we don't get some support soon, people will think we're nuts.'

And they want to replace us with computers .....

Well, it's official now. My website has crashed. During a recent server move, my files were corrupted. The server move had nothing to do with me. I don't want you to think I'm a total computer idiot.
Anyway, I'm just waiting for the final transfer to go through, and then my new website will be up and running and even better than before.
So, stay tuned!

Primitive Valentine Forever Swans

This pair of primitive swans is just perfect for Valentine's Day and will make a fabulous centerpiece!
Dangling from their beaks is a red heart. Can you see how the shape of their necks also forms a heart?
The swans are stitched together at the chest. Their prim tag, which is a little grubbier than what shows in the picture, reads "Forever".
So romantic! So perfectly prim!
Great as a centerpiece - on a shelf or sideboard or small table. Create a whole love scene around them.
You could also change the prim tag for other occasions - wedding, anniversary.
Measures 6" high x 17" long. Will arrive signed and dated.
Special thanks to Homespun Heart Primitives for the pattern design.
Perfect for adding just a little prim love to your Valentine's Day or any other day:)
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

I've been tagged

I've been tagged. So, I have to list 5 things that most people don't know about me. Here goes:
1) I have ALWAYS wanted to live in Colorado. I'm originally from Michigan and REALLY do miss the snow and the winter and the change of seasons.
2) I have been a court reporter for 25 years.
3) I love to watch old reruns of Laverne & Shirley, Leave it to Beaver, and Happy Days.
4) I am deathly afraid of cats and bugs. I have always been afraid of cats, and I can spot a bug a mile away. I won't kill a bug. I'll go away.
5) I'll have to add this one later.

What a face!

It's hard to believe, with a face like that, he could be such a mischief, isn't it? I'll sure be glad when he's past those terrible 2's, but he does make me laugh! He's full of personality. That's for sure!
